zappp!

Words cannot describe the sensation of watching the 100 meters race at the Bird Nest Stadium. This was definitely one of my most anticipated event of the Beijing games. It really did not disappoint.

Usain Bolt smashed his own world record of 9.72 secs and bettered it to an all low 9.69 secs! And this coming from a guy who hadn't even considered to participate in the blue riband event until a few days before the games started! So since Bolt considers 200 meters his specialty. We can all expect Michael Johnson's record to be in serious threat!

The way Bolt ran the show was simply phenomenal! He even had the time to look both to his left and right as if to say, "where are you???" in pure contempt while giving himself a pat on his chest as he cruised to the finish line! It was something awesome! And the way he entertained and flaunted to the crowd just shows how much he knows he is good. It was great seeing an athlete like that! He was superior to the rest of the field. No one came close to him at all. Even though Trinidad's Richard Thompson got silver, it was delightful to see him so esctatic!

The race was supposedly a shoo-in between Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt. Gay failed to qualify from the semis and Powell only finished a poor 5th in the finals.

It was unbelievable that an Olympic competitor had the nerves and time to goof off right before the finish line! Bolt said he didn't know he broke the world record until much later. It shows he was there to win and not to break the world record. But he did both. One can only wonder how low the record could have gone if he had stucked to his routine.
