directive...

Last Friday, I got a surprise call from Hitz. I had expected to be like any other day... so I had planned to sleep my morning away. But it so happened on that particular day, I had left my phone on. After a few buzz, I had reluctantly opened my eyes (which reminds me of something funny - explanation later). I recognised their number and quickly cleared my throat; did a bit of 'testing 1-2-3' just to be sure I sounded normal awake.

I was still a little dazed when they told me I was selected to be on their WALL-E blind-mute date! Then it hit me! I had only entered that contest 2 days prior to that call. So my date and I would be among the few granted passes to watch WALL-E at Pavilion's Gold Class Cinema! I was pretty excited because I was longing to watch the show. I mean Pixar shows are always the best =D Hitz followed up with another call about 2 hours later to introduce my date, Michelle. We were to be on a romantic date at Glitters, allocated beside Pavilion's Cinema. And we had the chance to win an NEC laptop each! Hell yeah! I was quite excited.

Then yesterday came. Hitz phoned me another 2 more times, to take my main course order (wow!) and to confirm my attendance (I won't let my date be stood up no matter how much I wanted to bail). I was there 15 minutes before 7pm. Quite early...for my standards. Punctuality is always something I have been trying really hard to comply. I noticed the Hitz booth! Have to register! Lol! Ok... I was also observing from afar... people leaning against the railing - like waiting for someone.

Hitz booked the whole place! Omg. Damn otai! There were like 10 tables there with table sheets! I also noticed the martini cup. Somehow I felt, that could be as romantic as it would get. When the time came, we were seated with our dates. She looked...woah...! I mean I was totally underdressed. I was wearing jeans with a T-shirt. She was wearing a dress. 0_o So...anyway the 'dating game' began. We had to somehow divulge details about ourselves without speaking at all. She looked like she put in lots of effort. She knew sign language! I was like... :-O with a capital O. Yea... my mouth was shaped just about like that. I knew I had to do my best. She really wanted the laptop badly. We had fun trying to 'articulate' by gesturing. It was like charades. And clearly I wasn't good at it. I was blur on innumerable of occasions. But we had a few laughs trying to divulge and decipher. Thankfully we didn't have to silent our laughters.

I was kinda surprised dinner was good! I had no idea Glitters served food like that. We had salad first. Before that, we made a silent toast - To a good date. The lemon+mint tea was good! When they came to collect our plates, I tried to reclaim my fork. The waiter said it was ok. I guess I'm not cut out for fine-dining =P Next we had mushroom soup. I wasn't done yet and the waiter took it away! I was enjoying that. I tried not to make a scene. But I was pretty upset.

Ok I didn't have my blogger's instinct kicking yesterday. I mean it would be kinda strange/weird or jakun/sao pa kau. So I had to behave. Next was the main course I pre-ordered, fish. My date got the same thing. I will give their presentation an A. Taste A-. But overall very well above expectations! I could have the choice of either beef or pasta also. Next was our dessert. A small slice of cheese cake. Satisfying I would say. We filled up the details of our date this time (We filled ours earlier). And the scores were calculated. I had estimated our chances to be pretty good. Allow me to break it down. There were 10 couples including Michelle and I. 1 guy's date didn't make it. Another guy and girl came late. So we had 1/8 chance! Good odds, no? But no. We weren't even among the top 3! As we looked at the winners, I could help but feel a little envious... although I wasn't really there for the laptop. But the thing was they won a laptop that easily!

Anyway, were didn't go home empty-handed. I got what seemed to be a T-shirt...

It's a light bulb! Lol! How fitting...

So now if I have a burst bulb, I have an instant replacement! Not a bright idea right? hmm.. Anywho...

The date wasn't over yet...at 9.30pm, our movie started. Instead of trailers of other movies and mind-controlling ads, Pixar also played us Presto, a short 5 minutes humour about a magician and his bunny.

Then WALL-E started...

**********WARNING!! SPOILERS ALERT!**********

Wall-E is cute because it has the curiosity of a cat...

...but understands the meaning of love and emotions like humans.

I love the starting when they show Wall-E working; and collecting stuffs. Back at home he will neatly sort his collections. One scene, he couldn't decide if the utencil he found was a spoon or fork, so he placed it in between (It was actually a fork well curved to look like a spoon).

And early on I promised an explanation right? Well Wall-E also woke up feeling daze. He went to put on his 'shoes' or treads and knocked over a few stuffs! Turns out he ran out of batteries; so had to recharged himself using solar panels.

Wall-E goes a long way to impress EVE.

Wall-E's secret to courting 'female' bots:

Eve: Name?
WALL.E: WALL-E.
Eve: WALL-E?
[giggles]
Eve: Eve.
WALL.E: Eva?
Eve: Eve.
WALL.E: Eeeeeva?
Eve: Eve! Eve!
WALL.E: Eeeeeva?
Eve: [giggles]

This is a scene where Eve tries to shoot the Big Mouth Billy Bass (singing fish), then Wall-E starts handing her objects to play with: eggbeater (she spoils it), bubblewrap, light bulb (picture), Rubik's cube, etc. Then she pulls the tape out of the VHS tape and he freaks out. He rewinds the tape and puts it in the machine. It plays back and he presents the video to Eve. She scans it.

Haha! And the people 700 years into the future are like slugs!

**********END SPOILERS**********

Overall, I felt the movie was good... very heart-warming. Funny and cute...but predictable. It's a family show with plenty of Disney's classic moral values. And I would like to thank Hitz.fm for this blind date. Michelle was great. A good date. I had loads of fun which I had not expected =)

Neways, i didn't really like Wall-E that much. I prefer my movies to have talking in them!! Felt so relief when the captain finally spoke!
