We studied that Parameswara married a Majapahit Princess but then he broke one vital code that we must always remember in marriage; never upset the in-laws. He tried to take control of his father in-law's empire for God's sake. Couldn't he wait till it was his turn next in line??
Ok maybe if he had not done that, he wouldn't have fled to Temasek where he killed Temagi (out of his power-crazy ego), and then to Muar before hiding away in this small fishing village where he witnessed his beloved dogs outwitted by a kancil (mousedeer). No more killing after that, or so I read. He decided to reside in that place where he named 'Malacca' or Malaqua - market.
Anyway, he married again and converted to Muslim. He was then known as Megat Iskandar Shah from then on.
Oh and specifically another Sultan's marriage was discussed. Sultan Mansur Shah, arguably the greatest ruler during the Malacca dynasty, took a Chinese Princess's hand in marriage. Her name? Princess Hang Li Po. She was from the Han Dynasty; note her name 'Hang'. Some say the name has a resemblance to the names of the 5 great Malay warriors of their time, which with latest findings are in serious doubt if they were Malay at all.
But I digress. It's all about the romantics of learning history. I do love it. I'm serious. I have been in love with history since school, especially in Form 4.
Hope the above video cheer you up as it did to me.
Happy Valentines Day!
