Losing our forests?

Took this picture at Everlast, KLCC. Guess they are environment friendly?

I wonder how it got in though. Let's hope it can find it's way out!

Instant Stardom!

My mom was clearing her inbox like normal when she stumbled upon this "junkmail" from Postmaster. Normally she would have deleted it straight away without giving a thought. But not today...prob because the mail was titled "East Malaysia Education Fair" which prompted her to click [enter]. She shrieked soon after (my mom is very good at recognizing faces)! Then, I heard my sis laughing. So I came from my room..and no wonder!

This pic was taken when I was at the Nottingham booth at the recent star edu fair in KL Convention Centre! I was speaking to Andrew of the Faculty of Science.

There you have it; Instant Stardom! I'm officially a net-celebrity! Or an I-Celeb! Haha! It took me far less time to shoot up that high than I expected. Take that, kennysia! XD

Wait, maybe I should sue Postmaster? XD

Bleh..cant upload the whole thing =P

Anyway, why was this pic chosen? Why was I? Haha! My mom said prob I have that studious look! (Which means nerdy! Argh!) Or prob because I looked very attentive? Hmm. Maybe the brand of my shirt wasn't really conspicuous. I mean I doubt they would use my pic if I were wearing my blazing ManU jersey right? Haha! Hmm..biasness is another issue there.

Anyway, it was a real surprise. Haha! Thank you whoever did this ;P

Green Pledge

Mother Nature is suffering. Because of that, we are suffering. Our home is in danger of being destroyed by our very own hands. As a citizen of our planet, ask yourself what have you taken from her? Everything! Now ask yourself, what have you given her? Nothing but suffering. Tomorrow is World Environment Day. What can we do? It's time to stand up to make a name for ourselves. Let us be the ones, the ones whom our children can proudly call us as heroes! Let us make this period as our finest hour. We have the time, the resource, the capabilities to make a change. Question is; can you summon your will to do it? I challenge all of you to make the Green Pledge and practise what you preached!

For my transportation, I pledge to...
take public transportation to work or school instead of driving at least 1 day a week
carpool to work or school at least 1 day a week
replace at least 5 miles of driving with biking or walking per week
inflate car tires properly, use recommended motor oil and keep car well tuned
buy fuel efficient vehicle (30 mpg)

At home, I pledge to...
turn off lights and appliances when not in use
use computer sleep mode at home and office, turn off computer at night
open the dishwasher and air dry dishes instead of using the hot air dry cycle, run only full loads
dry laundry on a clothesline
wash clothes on warm cycle, wash only full loads
turn down your hot water heater to 120F
shorten showers by a few minutes to conserve hot water
lower your thermostat by 1F during the winter season
adjust thermostat when you leave the house (10F down in winter, 10F up in summer)
keep up with basic furnace maintenance- have it professionally tuned and cleaned, replace air filters regularly
cook more efficiently- cover pots, use a pressure cooker when appropriate, keep burners clean, cook several dishes at a time in the oven, use microwave to heat food
keep drapes or blinds closed at night in winter and during the day in the summer to reduce heating and cooling needs
clean refrigerator coil every 4-6 months
replace at least 3 incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs
install faucet aerators in sinks to reduce hot water use
install low-flow shower heads to conserve hot water
insulate 4 ft of hot water pipes closest to hot water heater
insulate all hot water pipes
caulk and weatherstrip all your doors and windows
have a professional seal your heating ducts to reduce loss of heated air
install programmable thermostat
replace old inefficient dishwasher (over 10 years old) with an Energy Star model
replace old inefficient refrigerator (over 10 years old) with an Energy Star model
replace old inefficient clothes washing machine (over 10 years old) with an Energy Star model
improve your home's insulation
replace old furnace with efficient Energy Star model
install a solar hot water heater
eat one less beef meal per week

If everyone of us commit to at least 5 of the above suggestions everyday from today, we can make a whole lot of difference. Mark down what you plan to do, and post it here. Or print this article out and post it on your fridge. Tell your family and friends what you plan to do. Forget about rankling what mistakes we have done, let us all focus on what we can do. Make that action! Spread the word and unite the world! We can all do this.

Petrol Price Hike

Urrghh! Another hike! Our petrol price will increase by RM0.78 a liter! That's massive! Currently it's still RM1.92 la but by midnight, it will be RM2.70 pr liter! Cripes! This can only spell the rising cost of living. Everything will become more expensive! Arrgh!

The Pleasure of My Company

My contract with my bank expired on the 3rd of June 2008. It was after a 2nd spell in my bank. Before that, I was in HR. I think I had a greater time in CSA. Haha! We had more time to actually mingle with our colleague as oppose to the more working orientated style in HR. Definitely there will be lots to miss... *sobs*

This was my cubicle. Right behind me; I have a partial view of KL.
My monitor isn't flatscreen, mind you =P
HAHA! Noticed the Rubik's Cube, Manu logo I drew, and the SKingston CD? XD
Or what about the toilet roll on the right? I know that's weird...heh

Thank God It's Friday??

Last Friday, my colleagues took me to Colosseum at Jalan TAR. It's quite an old looking place. Lots of elderly people and 'uncles' ran the place =P But anyway, about the food, I had the 4 in 1 chicken! Inside this lump of chicken meat, there's a sausage, turkey ham, and apparently fish - mixed with mushroom sauce, and with long beans and French fries as the side dish, it taste pretty good! But I can't remember what I tasted when I took a bite on a piece. Hmm. I must remember to take a picture next time ;)

So this is KarMei, my Kar Jie, cam-whoring with me...sort off =p

We were busy gossiping, when Ms Gaik's Sizzling Lamb came...

Hot and oily steam begin to engulf us all...

Every man for himself! Sorry Ms Gaik! We distant ourselves from her...

Now we truly know why they provided us with napkins! Carmen and I were also shielding ourselves. Guess the other restaurant patrons thought we looked funny.

Well anyway, we survived all of that, and got back to the office with our bellies stuffed!

When we got back, I had another pleasant surprised! My boss, JJ, called me to her place just as I went to get a refill at the pantry. Immediately, I noticed a black plastic bag, that I had only just seen earlier that day ;P I was so grateful; I was almost speechless! all I could do was thank her profusely! I was really so happy! It's like I got a bonus rather than a farewell gift or even a belated birthday present. Haha!

JJ got me a motivational book - 100 Ways to Motivate Yourself. Just the kind of book you will see me read ;) If you lost me in a shopping mall, just head to the Self-Help section of the bookstore!

I also got an extra allowance.

And finally, a 'thank-you' card! That really means a lot! =)

It's so sad-dening leaving all of my friends at CSA =( I will definitely miss them...

On a lighter note, I got the autographed Sean Kingston CD I won from FlyFm recently! It's so uber cool! Steve also had wished me Happy Birthday when he called me that day! Guess what was my message? ;) - Good Luck to Manchester United! - =D

Who I Am Makes A Difference

A friend of mine sent this email to me. It thought me a very valuable lesson. It kinda reminded me of the book I read and loved - The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. Each person is in your life for a reason. No matter what you do in this lifetime, no matter who you encountered along the way, remember that you will touch the lives of the people around you and vise versa. In other words, people around you influence your life.

And I decided to come up with a list of things you can do to be a positive influence to the people around you ;)
1. Smile and greet them! Say hello followed by their names (Even if their names are a mouthful)
2. Show appreciation - thank them sincerely! Show you care. Because caring is sharing =P Does that make sense?
3. Get them a card if necessary - homemades work best! Makes full use of your creative side too!
4. Or presents! Everyone loves presents =P
5. Or take them out for lunch! Haha! People are happier after a hearty meal!
6. Listen carefully to whatever they say - remember to remove the earplugs out of your ears!
7. Laugh! Sing! Show that you are a bunch of joy! =D In other words, show your enthusiastic side! And I don't mean just being loud! (Imagine your team winning the Champions League Finals! XD Good for you, all Manchester United and Liverpool fans!)
8. Encourage them and not put them down. Be their cheerleader!
9. Be interested in them and urge them to keep talking. People just LOVE to talk!
10. And finally, tell them they do make difference =) In a form of a ribbon will be nice!

Good Luck & Thanks for reading ;)
